The wave of trade defense measures sweeping across Asia shows no sign of slowing. The latest: Vietnam.
On June 14, 2026, Vietnam‘s Ministry of Industry and Trade issued a decision to initiate an anti-dumping investigation into certain galvanized steel products originating from China and South Korea.
The investigation covers flat-rolled carbon steel products, both in coil and non-coil forms, coated or plated with anti-corrosive metals — which includes your PPGI, galvanized, and galvalume products.
What triggered this?
The investigation was requested by five major Vietnamese steel producers: Hoa Sen Group, Nam Kim Steel, Ton Phuong Nam, Ton Dong A, and China Steel & Nippon Steel Vietnam. The complainants have alleged dumping margins of 69.23% for Chinese products and 3.41% for South Korean products, claiming these practices have caused significant injury to the local industry.
This is not Vietnam‘s first trade action against Chinese steel. In 2017, Vietnam imposed anti-dumping duties on coated steel products from China and South Korea, with the highest duty rate reaching 38.34%.According to the Vietnam Steel Association, between 2016 and 2023, Vietnam initiated 10 trade defense investigations on imported steel products, most of which involved Chinese-origin steel.
