The trade walls against Chinese steel keep rising. On September 15, 2026, Indonesia‘s Komite Anti Dumping Indonesia (KADI) officially launched an anti-dumping investigation on galvanized steel coil originating from China. The products covered are flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, plated or coated with zinc, width ≥600mm, under HS code 7210.49.10. The investigation follows a petition filed by PT NS BlueScope Indonesia, which alleged that Chinese GI imports were dumped into the Indonesian market and caused material injury to the domestic industry.
Why this matters to you:
Indonesia is one of Southeast Asia’s largest markets for galvanized steel, used extensively in construction, roofing, and appliances. If anti-dumping duties are imposed, Chinese GI exports to Indonesia will face significant cost increases.
And Indonesia is not alone. In just the past month:
– Final anti-dumping duties up to 57.84% on Chinese coated steel, effective September 18
– Final anti-dumping duties of $305–$309/ton on Chinese hot-rolled steel, effective September 3
– Final anti-dumping and countervailing duties on Chinese flat-rolled steel, with rates from 9.4% to 51.2%, effective September 24
– “Melt and Pour” origin rule fully in force from October 1; tin-coated flat-rolled steel anti-dumping investigation opened September 30
– Hearing on October 6 for Chinese electrical steel anti-dumping case
What this means for you:
If you source galvanized (GI), galvalume (GL), or pre-painted (PPGI) steel from China, your cost structure is changing by the week. Tariffs are accumulating, markets are closing, and the window to lock in current pricing is closing fast.
