Hot-Rolled Pickled & Oiled Steel Coil (HRPO) – Scale-Free, Smooth Surface, Superior Formability for Automotive Parts & Appliance Components
Product Overview
Hot-Rolled Pickled and Oiled (HRPO) steel is produced by taking hot-rolled coils and processing them through a continuous pickling line. The pickling process uses hydrochloric or sulfuric acid to remove the black oxide scale (iron oxide) from the surface, followed by rinsing and application of a protective oil layer. The result is a clean, smooth, scale-free surface that combines the strength and economy of hot-rolled steel with a finish approaching that of cold-rolled material. HRPO steel is the material of choice for applications requiring excellent surface quality, tight dimensional tolerances, and superior formability – all at a lower cost than cold-rolled steel. Our pickling line features laser welding, stretch-bending leveling, turbulent acid washing, in-line temper rolling, edge trimming, and electrostatic oiling for consistent quality.

Core Advantages
Scale-Free Surface – Pickling removes all oxide scale, eliminating the need for in-house shot blasting or acid treatment before forming or painting.
Cost-Effective Alternative to Cold-Rolled – Offers surface quality close to cold-rolled steel at approximately 10-20% lower cost, providing excellent value for formed parts.
Superior Formability – The pickling process also improves ductility; SPHE and SPHD grades offer deep-drawing capabilities suitable for complex stamping.
Ready for Coating – Clean surface ensures excellent paint adhesion and zinc coating performance.
Reduced Tool Wear – No scale means less abrasive wear on stamping and forming dies, extending tool life.
Environmental Benefit – Eliminates customer's need for in-house pickling, reducing environmental compliance burden.
